I always find it sad during the holidays that so many people at the local nursing homes and assisted living facilities don't have anyone who visits them. It's bad enough throughout the year, but the holidays are something special and I hate to think of anyone spending them alone. One thing that I've been doing for the past couple of years, is getting together with a few of my friends and putting together small gift baskets for those who have no family, and stop in and pay them a visit for Christmas. I've actually made some wonderful friends this way, and those people have some of the most amazing stories to tell.

We always like to include various types of skin care products, because many of them don't have anyone bringing them skin care products and other items like that. They do get the basic skin care products from the actual facility, but I find that sometimes women want more than el-cheapo skin care products that they receive from the facility. That's where my friends and I fit into the equation. We always contact a facility and find out how many residents that they have who don't have regular visitors and then we get to work. We usually include some fruit in the baskets, and for those who are allowed, we include some candy, nuts, skin care products, books and other little things that the residents may be interested in.

One of the elderly friends that I made told me that someone once gave her some skin care products that she loved, and when I asked her what it was, she showed me the tube that the skin care products came in. She'd saved it, thinking that maybe someday she'd have a chance to get the skin care products for herself, but that chance never came. She said that it smelled so good, and when she used the skin care products that her skin felt silky smooth. I couldn't help but smile and think about how much we take the little things for granted sometime.
